Imagine New York with its museums, galleries, stores, restaurants and night clubs. Now put it in South Beach, Miami, with its perfect weather and beaches, add to it beautiful mountains with the largest urban forest in the world, gorgeous historical buildings, perfect waves, awesome music, inexpensive eating and drinking and you have Rio de Janeiro! Your Rolex won't last long if you wear it around, but not wearing expensive things it's a small price to pay for such a fun trip!

Cariocas, as the people born in Rio are known, are a fun bunch, they go to the beach a LOT, a little jogging before work, a cheap sandwich, from one of the many kiosks on the beach, for lunch and some volleyball after work! They have their favorite beach spots and meet their friends there without planning, they surf, play volleyball, frescobol, get massages and shop. Many vendors sell a little of everything: sandwiches, grilled chunks of sun dried cheese, ice cream, coconut water, beer and mixed drinks (yes! it's legal!), cangas (as the Balinese sarongs are called down there), earrings, henna tattoos, puppies... EVERYTHING!
After the beach everyone has their favorite “buteco” where people go for a beer and a cheap meal, sitting at sidewalk tables, talking and people watching.
